I'm going to try firing up the blog again for 2016, especially the nature/landscape side of things. It is in desperate need of a redesign so I will be working on that while shooting for KSTV. Unfortunately the slideshows on older posts have been disabled by flickr. You can find all of my work in my gallery.

Creating a slide show

Yesterday I decided it might be fun to merge my eclipse photos into a slide show set to music. Sounds pretty straightforward, right? I selected the images, loaded them into Windows Movie Maker, found some great royalty free music for the background, added a title and credits and voila...a beautiful slide show.

Everything looked perfect. The eclipse almost happens before your eyes as the photos fade into one another. "That was easy," I thought.

That is until I went to save the file as a WMV file. After error message after error message, a little internet research (actually a lot of internet research), I finally decided it was hopeless and opened up Photoshop Elements 4. I had created a beautiful slide show set to music of my daughter's First Communion last spring in that program so I thought I would give it a try.

I selected the images, loaded them into PSE4, added the royalty free music for the background, added a title and credits and voila...another beautiful slide show.

There was hope after all until...

I tried saving it as a WMV file. Ugh! More error messages. I tried removing the music, I tried recreating, I tried everything I could think of.

I downloaded ProShow Gold. This is a great program for creating slide shows. So I selected the images, loaded them into PSG, added the royalty free music for the background, added a title and credits and voila...yet another beautiful slide show. Now I held my breath. Would it convert the file to WMV format? Finally after spending hours on this slide show...SUCCESS! It did indeed convert to WMV with one catch. A big bar across the bottom saying that it was created with a trial version of ProShow Gold. Double ugh!!

Back to the drawing board. I watched video tutorials on YouTube. If you haven't checked it out, YouTube has tons of great tutorials on a wide variety of subjects, even photography and wouldn't you know it, software problems.

I learned I could download Windows Service Pack 2, reinstall and apparently this fixes the Movie Maker problem. After waiting nearly an hour for it to download, I installed and guess what? Big red X and an error message. By this time it was getting close to 2am and my patience was long gone. My computer is one of my "babies", but at this point I was about to smash it.

After some rest and perspective, I have decided to let my baby live and share with you a slide show. So it is not a slide show of the eclipse, but a slide show of my daughter's First Communion featuring photographs I took of her preparing for the big day.

Enjoy!
