I'm going to try firing up the blog again for 2016, especially the nature/landscape side of things. It is in desperate need of a redesign so I will be working on that while shooting for KSTV. Unfortunately the slideshows on older posts have been disabled by flickr. You can find all of my work in my gallery.

Attention Big Lots Shoppers: Prop Stash Alert =)

Excuse the quick shots, but I have had my eye on this bench since I first saw it at Big Lots. They finally marked it down to $33 (from $110!!) and it was too much for me to resist this morning since it was the last one. I rushed home, put my youngest in a dress and had to try it out. I can't wait until this rain clears out so I can get some portraits done of the girls. If you have a Big Lots around, it is worth stopping in to take a look. They had some larger benches that would be great for family shots. I would love to see a newborn curled up on this one.

ETA: Apparently at a couple of different stores, the hang tag on this was still listed at the 60% off price, but if you have the cashier ring it up it comes up at the 70% off price of $33. Good luck! =)

The Other Cardinals...

Probably not the best time to declare my fondness for Cardinals with the big UK/UofL game tomorrow, but I love watching these little birds. We have several families that are regular visitors. It always strikes me how protective the fathers are and how they always provide for their mate and young.

"That is the thankless position of the father in the family... the provider for all"

GO CATS!!!!!!!

More Butterfly Friends

This is what our butterfly factory looked like before they all emerged. That little swallowtail caterpillar hiding in the parsley is now in his chrysalis.

I guess this is my Macro Monday shot for the week. =)

One of our Monarchs drying her wings before her first flight.

My mop top woke up to the Monarch and could not wait to release her. This is the first time she worked up the courage to hold one on her own.

Black Swallowtail Butterfly

We have had a lot of fun and excitement around our house with all of the butterflies emerging. Our neighbor left on a vacation and left us with 5 monarchs in the chrysalis, a swallowtail chrysalis and another swallowtail caterpillar. Three of the monarchs and one swallowtail emerged at my daughter' school, much to the delight of her classmates. The entire second grade got to help release them a few days later. This swallowtail emerged while I was helping my youngest daughter in another room. We were watching it, left for a few minutes and came back to find a beautiful black swallowtail! We have another one that should emerge next weekend.
