I'm going to try firing up the blog again for 2016, especially the nature/landscape side of things. It is in desperate need of a redesign so I will be working on that while shooting for KSTV. Unfortunately the slideshows on older posts have been disabled by flickr. You can find all of my work in my gallery.

Power Restored!

Yesterday we finally lost power. We were just waiting for it to happen and praying it wouldn't at the same time. Fortunately the new house we are buying still had power and we were able to stay over there. We arrived back home this morning to power...for about 15 wonderful minutes!! It has returned now, but we don't know how long we will have it. At least I can charge my camera batteries back up and I was able to get a pot of coffee made. It really makes you appreciate the little things. =) These are from earlier on in the storm before more and more ice and even more snow.

White Out

We are some of the lucky few to keep our power. The kids have been home from school all week and will be off again tomorrow. My little entrepreneurs (along with their uncle) made $155 shoveling snow today though! My mother lost power in Sparta, KY so I have a few extra guests. I did manage to sneak out and get some shots after the snow fell on layers of ice. Our trees have lost quite a few branches. It is supposed to be breezy tomorrow. I hope the trees can take it!

These were taken at a local park. I love how the trees look similar to infrared images.

We have power!

I shouldn't jinx it, but I awoke to power at least. We lost several branches and half of my dogwood as far as I can tell. We'll have to wait for daylight to assess the damage. We are getting a steady rain now, but it is supposed to be followed up with snow. I'm betting this will only add to the weight and we will lose more of our trees. It could be much worse as we all remember from the big ice storm.

Here are a few more shots from yesterday:

Nature's Jewels

We have a little snow and layers of ice on the ground. It is still falling and it looks like we are in store for a dangerous morning. My poor little dogwood branches are almost touching the ground with the weight of the ice. I hope everyone stays safe and warm inside. I'll post more over the next few days, but here are
some shots from today.

Even though things appeared dull and gloomy at first glance, I found a few "diamonds" in the rough. =)

Tiptoeing through the tulips

I am working on a photo book of the kids from activities we did during 2008. One of our favorites was "tiptoeing" trough the tulips at The Lexington Cemetery. We spent countless mornings and afternoons down there enjoying the beautiful garden and taking hundreds of snapshots. We look forward to returning this year.

Snowflakes

"We are each of us a snowflake

of infinite design

Transitory dancers

on the widow panes of time."

The snowflakes were captured with my Olympus SP-510 UZ point & shoot on a black shirt on my front porch this morning. The photo to the left is from my porch railing.

Dumpr Photo Fun

I found a fun website called dumpr.net where you can create novelty photos from your images. The finished photos can be uploaded directly to your flickr, facebook, blogger or other account. Here are examples of the Photo To Sketch tool, Modern Art Museum effect and Picture Inside a Photo:

Life Size Photo Wall Decals

I got an email from an old friend about a new website called Jambellies.com where you can create up to 7ft. tall wall decals from your photos. I immediately thought of the Peas and my blogging photog. friends. You can choose a poster or cut-out, but I am thinking more of printing landscapes or nature images huge on that 7 ft. poster like a mural. I think that would be fantastic!

Use code JAMFF on the checkout page for 50% off your first order. The offer expires March 31, 2009.

I also found out they are developing an affiliate program for professional photographers. Woo-hoo! I'll keep you posted if I hear more information on that front.

Ky Horse Farms

I love all of the beautiful farm entrances we have here in Kentucky. In the Fall they are especially gorgeous. I have a nice collection of photos of farm signs and gated entrances. I usually snap them for reference purposes while out shooting, but I thought a few of them might look nice grouped together.

See you on Wednesday...

Well, we have had two showings and an Open House the past few days. Eventually I am sure we will get this house sold, but all of the showings are pretty stressful with a house full of kids. I haven't even picked up my camera in days. =(

I'm off to have what should be a minor surgical procedure bright and early tomorrow morning. Hopefully I'll catch up with everyone on Wednesday. Have a great day everyone!

Black and White Conversions

I have often struggled with black and white conversions. I have tried lots of different methods and find that some work beautifully on one photo, but not so much on another. After trying several methods and various actions on my nephew's photos, I went into the archives and remembered I had some beautiful conversions for Elements from
KKPhotos Extras blog. I love that you can adjust the opacity of the layers to customize it to your photo.

The best part is you can get KK's b/w conversion as well as several others on her blog for free. Just scroll all the way to the bottom and enjoy!

Free Photo Book Offers

I am always looking for a good deal to support my photography habit. =) Multiply.com has a free 20 page photo book promotion going. I just made one of these with all the photos I took of my new nephew. It even let me choose the $39.99 leather covered book and after the discount code it was only $7.99 for shipping.
They don't have as many options as other places, but I figured it was worth a try. I chose the photo album option and black pages. The portfolio one looks nice, too. The coupon code expires on 1/14/09.

They do offer shipping to Canada for $12.99. Estimated time of delivery is 3-10 days after processing.

I love my photo books from picaboo.com. They have the following promotion:
Buy a large Book, Get a Medium Book for Free! Use Coupon Code 1PB1GF-CB
You can try this for free ground shipping: 2PFGSB-IP

Enjoy!

Baby Feet

I just can't get enough of this little guy. I was able to visit with him again yesterday and can report that he is still absolutely perfect right down to his little feet and toes. I might be a little biased though. =)
