I'm going to try firing up the blog again for 2016, especially the nature/landscape side of things. It is in desperate need of a redesign so I will be working on that while shooting for KSTV. Unfortunately the slideshows on older posts have been disabled by flickr. You can find all of my work in my gallery.

Macro Monday and a Lily from my yard.

This little guy kept crawling around while I was trying to get a shot of my lily that had opened yesterday. Not the greatest shot because I was playing around with my 28mm 2.8 macro lens again and my arm is still giving me lots of trouble. Hopefully the monopod and hand strap that arrived this week will help.

For My Husband-His Favorite Color.

I was kind of giving my husband a hard time about his favorite color-purple. So here are a few recent purple shots taken at the UK Arboretum just for him.

Macro Monday

This little guy perched on a dead weed and watched us set up our pool. The second one is a mushroom from the yard. I guess we have had too much wet weather lately.

Macro Monday

Baby G

This little guy is almost 6 months old already. We took a few for fun the other day so I could get a little practice with my external flash. I still have so much to learn about using this flash. I used the pop-up flash for the last one because my batteries died. =(

The "Babies"

These are my two youngest. We spent a morning hanging out at the UK Arboretum and of course I had to snap a few shots of them.

Our New Friend-Monarch Butterfly

"May the wings of the butterfly kiss the sun
And find your shoulder to light on,
To bring you luck, happiness and riches
Today, tomorrow and beyond."-Irish Blessing

Evolution of a Monarch Butterfly

The second butterfly finally emerged 10 days after forming the chrysalis. Since I missed the big show with the first one, I kept this one under complete watch. Once we saw the little ledge form and knew we were getting close, we anxiously waited for the slightest sign of a crack. I got so excited when it finally did that I almost dropped my camera. The kids really enjoyed seeing the whole process. My little 7 yr.old aspiring photog. Susie even filmed it. I was especially excited that I captured all of these with my old manual 28mm 2.8 macro lens. I think I am finally starting to get the hang of using the manual lenses on my Pentax. The kids had their last day of school yesterday so they were all able to see the butterfly emerge. I will try to post some pictures of them getting to know the butterfly tomorrow. We enjoyed her for awhile and then she was set free in a neighbor's garden.

New Arrival-Monarch Butterfly!

The kids were very excited to see one of our butterflies had emerged after 10 days of waiting and watching. Susie tried coaxing her out to no avail. We eventually took the bottle into the garden and the butterfly took her first flight. She must be patriotic because she flew straight to our flag. =) She eventually took up temporary residence in our blue spruce tree. We watched her sun herself, drying out her wings for about an hour and a half before we had to leave for a t-ball game. She was gone when we returned. We still have one more butterfly set to emerge tomorrow possibly. What a wonderful experience for all of us this has been!

Stretching her wings high up in the blue spruce.

Yesterday everything uploaded so dark and today everything looks too bright. I guess I'll have to do some investigating. =) Anyone else having trouble on blogger or flickr?

Macro Monday

I was in the middle of posting these for 2Peas Macro Monday and my daughter yelled in that we have a butterfly! I just checked the chrysalis before getting the kids from school and she noticed it about 15 minutes after we returned. I guess I missed the big event. Sneaky guy!! Luckily we have another one due to open around Thursday so maybe I'll get another chance. =) I'll post pictures of our new arrival later. He is beautiful!!

Took the macro images this morning during a stroll around the UK Arboretum. I'm still having lots of difficulty with my right arm and hand so it was a bit of a challenge using the Pentax again.
